Ghinzelli
Our History
1977
After a brief experience as a butcher, Marino Ghinzelli founded Ghinzelli Spa with a few collaborators. The slaughterhouse was located in the center of Viadana, a town in the province of Mantua, on the northern bank of the Po River.
The location was strategic, being close to the large farms of the Po Valley and the main Italian meat processing and aging supply chains. At the time, the production capacity was around 3,000 pigs per week.
1983
Production increased, leading to the need for a larger and more modern facility outside the center of Viadana, inaugurated in 1983.
1996
Ghinzelli Spa expanded through a joint acquisition with Latterie Virgilio, then owners of the Bertana slaughterhouse in Cremona (later Pini Italia Srl).
1998
Ghinzelli’s growth continued. The company became a shareholder of the Brendolan Group, an Italian leader in ham aging with three facilities and as many DOP certifications (Parma, San Daniele, and Veneto).
As a result, Ghinzelli further specialized in the production of secondary meat cuts, feeding into certified Italian supply chains.
2013
The Pini Group—a major player in the meat processing sector with a long entrepreneurial tradition—acquired Ghinzelli Marino Spa and the former Bertana Slaughterhouse, which became Ghinzelli Srl and Pini Italia Srl, respectively. Together, Ghinzelli and Pini Italia now hold a 25% share of the national market in pork meat processing.
2017
The arrival of the Pini Group marked a turning point for the new Ghinzelli Srl. In its growth and modernization journey, significant renovations were carried out to optimize production spaces and improve overall efficiency.
These efforts culminated in 2017 with the opening of two new strategic departments: a freezing unit equipped with cutting-edge technology to ensure the highest product preservation quality, and a storage unit designed to optimize stock management and ensure faster and more organized logistics.
Today
The story of Ghinzelli and the Pini Group is one of continuous evolution, projecting into the future with a focus on growth and expansion into new markets. It is a journey marked by the ability to blend tradition with innovation, aimed at consolidating its position in the industry while ambitiously facing global challenges.
